Highway is committed to cultivating sustainable futures through artistic expression and environmental awareness. Founded in 2018, we empower Jordanian communities, especially youth, to advocate for change using art as their voice. Our project, ‘Atwa’s Environmental Canvas,’ is designed to educate, engage, and inspire Amman’s residents and beyond, building a legacy of environmental stewardship.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11 and 12, our project tackles critical urban and consumption issues. In Amman, limited waste management infrastructure and deeply ingrained consumption patterns require innovative approaches to foster a culture of sustainability. Through art, we bring awareness to SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, encouraging behavioral change and policy alignment to benefit Jordan's environment.
Atwa is more than a cartoon character—he's a voice of environmental advocacy. With his expressive face and relatable personality, Atwa simplifies complex issues, making them accessible and engaging for people of all ages. Through humorous yet impactful messages, Atwa’s presence on social media, in workshops, and on public walls helps everyone connect with environmental issues on a personal level.
